In a significant move toward sustainable energy, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced plans to harness the potential of floating solar installations on hydro dam reservoirs. Highlighting the suitability of sites including Bakun, Murum, and Baleh, he emphasised the initiative’s role in enhancing energy efficiency and water management. The completion of Malaysia’s largest floating solar farm, a 50MW project at Batang Ai, is expected by year-end. This endeavour reflects Sarawak’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of renewable energy sources.

During the ceremony, we witnessed the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), between several organisations, including Malaysian Water Association (Sarawak Branch), Weida Resources (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., Affin Islamic Bank, Singapore’s HSL Constructor Pte Ltd, and more.

The event was attended by notable officials, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Utility and Telecommunications Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, and his deputies Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, as well as BIWWEC organising chairperson Rodziah Mohamad.
