On October 10, 2025, WEIDA was honoured to welcome His Excellency Jacques Werner, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Malaysia along with a delegation of 13 Dutch companies to our headquarters in Kuching.
The visit, part of the Netherlands Port Trade Mission to Malaysia, commenced with a warm welcome from our Chairman, Dato’ Lee Choon Chin, and gracious remarks from His Excellency. The session provided an opportunity for introductions and an exchange of backgrounds between the Dutch delegates and the WEIDA team, alongside our collaboration partner, Mr Francis Chieng of HSL Constructor Pte Ltd (“HSL”) from Singapore.
Presentations highlighted WEIDA’s extensive infrastructure experience in Sarawak and HSL’s specialised expertise in port development. The Dutch delegation comprising specialists in dredging, maritime data, logistics and cybersecurity, expressed a strong interest in exploring collaborative ventures.
WEIDA emphasised that our local market knowledge and resources, combined with HSL’s technical port experience, create a strong foundation for potential partnerships. The Dutch companies reciprocated, expressing eagerness to share their global best practices.
The session concluded with closing remarks from WEIDA Project CEO, Jeffery Bay, a presentation of a traditional Iban sash to His Excellency and a group photo. Delegates also received local Sarawak spices as a token of our appreciation.
WEIDA is truly grateful for this fruitful engagement and looks forward to building innovative and sustainable partnerships in Sarawak’s port sector.
